And every now and then we catch the boys pokipodding - a casual termed coined by the dolphin encountours team to describe what is non-reproductive sexual behaviour. Here Skellitor, Sicle, Igor, Noodle and one other male can be seen shoving and poking around.  In the beginning Skellitor can be seen pinning Igor to the sand until another male arrives.

This is Matilda one of our local #dolphinsofponta. An interesting show of her belly leaves me wondering if she may be with child! Check back this time next year to confirm, he he!

The Danger Of Swimming With Dolphins

Memory Monday! Shot this piece back in 2010 with SkyNews! With a busy weekend looming I think it an appropriate share. Visitors to the Ponta do Ouro Partial Marine Reserve please take note that our local #dolphinsofponta use the area as resting and socialising grounds. With that said please be aware and take care!

Dolphins, dolphin everywhere! This mornings tour found peaceful seas and a large pod of our local dolphins cruising south inshore. A possie of three young ladies were first in to engage and we had an interesting observation of the dolphins using their eco-location on a large piece of rope that was embedded in the sand (pull as I may I could not dislodge it). Our second drop found the pod passthrough with the exception of the same possie of ladies minus the little one with the skin lesions and remora. When we continued north we located a pod of 6 heading over reef cruising offshore. Adult male Nemo and juvenile Gandalf were in the company of Bo, Bojangles and A.01 bdt with her calf of the year [cofy]. Gandalf took the time for a belly rub on some coral before rejoining the pod. Our last sighting included that of Cheekey and two other males who were heading north resting. #dolphinsofponta #dolphinencountoursresearchcenter #pontadoouro #dolphincare #marineprotectedarea #dolphinresearch

BROTHER AND SISTER HANGING OUT....
Todays tour found us locating a pod of dolphins just south of Malongane. The dolphins were milling around socialising and slipping in we were surrounded. Gulliver who is now 13 years old was first in for a bout of conscious interaction and circle swimming. Before departing she promptly s%#t in my face just before I was joined by her younger brother Gandalf who turned four late last year! Needless to say he has both his mothers and sisters interactive genes and delighted us all! Some 10 minutes later he together with two similar aged males had female Rykie 'locked' down for some 'pokipodding'...
